CS 373 Fall 2021 Week of 8 Nov - 14 Nov
What did you do this past week?
This past week my group and I worked on implementing sorting, filtering, and searching through the backend for phase 3, half of which was done for us since we're using Flask Restless. We did have to manually implement the search feature though, but luckily it wasn't too bad as we referenced our TA's code and it was easy to understand. I also worked on coming up with a final project for my Game Tech class, where we decided that we will be creating a PvP turn based combat game, similar to Pokemon in nature. I also started working on the final release of our app project with my iOS group, where our next step will be implementing map functionalities.
What's in your way?
The only big thing in my way right now is the sheer workload I have for all my classes. All of my classes are project based classes and while that isn't a bad thing, trying to juggle so many large projects at the same time is a bit overwhelming. I also find the project for SWE rather time consuming and I haven't had much time to focus on other group work as much, so I'm hoping that with the end of Phase 3, I can properly focus on other classes.
What will you do next week?
Next week I'll continue to work on the SWE project to continue working on the finishing touches of phase 3, along with the projects for my other classes. I'll have to work really hard to finish everything in time for the Monday deadline, but luckily we have enough tokens that we can use slip days if necessary.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #12: More Getters and Setters?
I hate the author of these articles. This guy has way too many opinions about getters and setters that just aren't feasible and trashes anyone who disagrees with him. Honestly, I would hate to work with anyone who acts like this in real life.
What was your experience of cross join, theta join, natural join, and SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
My only experience with these things were from working on the backend team for phase 2. I had to learn all these things from scratch, so I wish professor Downing could have covered these topics earlier in the semester.
What made you happy this week?
I got pasta for dinner with my boyfriend today so that was fun! I also got a full time offer to work at Facebook yesterday, so I finally have a job for when I graduate! I'm crossing my fingers to hear back with an offer from Amazon soon as well since I think the final interview went super well.
What's your pick-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is Godot. Godot is an open source game engine that is pretty easy to pick up and create 3D games with, and is what my game tech class uses to create our projects in. https://godotengine.org/
